(Below is the email Jedd+ sent to youth and parents about a new Bible study starting via Zoom on Thursday, Aug 19. If you miss a week, no worries! Jedd+ will send out the link for each recorded Zoom session to the email list each week. Sign up here.)
Parents and Youth,
I am so excited to announce the study I will be starting with our Thursday night Bible study via Zoom.
I have been reviewing a new opportunity to study the Bible together. It is called the Bible Project. You can view an intro video here.
The website provides more details, as well. The general idea is that this is a graduate-level Bible class online. These classes are designed to equip learners with study tools that foster deep engagement with the biblical story. I have no doubt that our mature middle school and high school students will be able to engage and follow along with the videos and discussions. Together we will learn how to study the Bible as we learn more about the Bible.
With that in mind, we'll start with the course "Introduction to the Hebrew Bible" and will work through that over the next few months. We all know Bible stories but do you know the story of the Bible?
We'll do the introduction this Thursday, Aug 20. Encourage your students to participate. Although the course does build on itself, it is okay to pop in and out as schedules allow.
To help with consistency, I have a few recommendations.
1) I will record each Thursday night Zoom session with video and discussion. I will send out the link to that Zoom after each session, so your teens can watch it at their leisure.
2) Consider creating a free account at the Bible Project website for your teen(s) to review the materials and access additional resources. Each teen can certainly have their own account with parental permission.
3) Parents, if you have any time, I encourage you to follow along on your independent study to engage in conversations with your teens.
There is no expectation of homework or coming in prepared. Just show up.
