Guatemala: Misión Desafío Community Center
The Misión Desafío Community Center is open and is making an incredible impact!
Misión Desafío, of the Anglican Church of Guatemala, serves a community of about 510 families who survive off whatever they scavenge from within the Guatemala City landfill. In November of 2021, ARDF approved a grant to help build a real community center. Rev. Dana Croft recently sent us an update:
“We have had a very blessed time in Guatemala City after the opening of the Community Outreach Center, with the weekly attendance of ~160 children, who daily receive educational, physical, and spiritual nourishment. This is also the first time any of them have been able to eat a hot breakfast each morning, before setting their minds to learning. In addition to the children’s program, this month marks our second year of providing a sound Theological education, combined with their choice in technical training, to over 30 single mothers who live in the Guatemala City Municipal Garbage Dumpsite. The educational trajectory we have set out for these incredible women, Lord willing, we see them graduating with both their diplomas in Introductory Theological Studies, and either a certificate in Cooking Basics, Pastry Marking, or Costume Jewelry Craftsman. Everyone is so very excited to see the many fruits which 2025 could bring to these marginalized families.”
However, many people are now returning to Guatemala with other deportees. Rev. Dana Craft explains:
"We are even seeing people fearing to leave their homes and apartments just to go to work. They have become trapped at home. And when they are prevented from working, obviously, their ability to financially support back in Guatemala is greatly impacted. So as you can see, we are currently facing a perfect storm of challenges."
Please keep Misión Desafío in your prayers as they continue to minister in this difficult context.
