Storytime Park Day @ Cloverdale Park
Dale City
Summer is around the corner, and we will grow ladybugs, and learn all about them! First, we will read about them in 2 stories:
From Eric Carle, New York Times bestselling author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar comes the classic story of one very grouchy ladybug. As children follow the Grouchy Ladybug on her journey, they will learn the important concepts of time, size, and shape, as well as the benefits of friendship and good manners. For generations, The Grouchy Ladybug has delighted readers of all ages with the story of a bad-tempered bug who won't say "please" or "thank you," won't share, and thinks she is bigger and better than anyone else. Readers will love how this testy ladybug introduces them to many new animals and learns that maybe being grouchy isn’t always the best option.
We will also read The Life Cycle of the Ladybug! Ladybugs are popular little critters due to their unique features, the gracefulness of their flight and they are harmless to humans, but did you know that farmers love ladybugs because the ladies eat aphids and other plant-eating pests. One little ladybug can eat up to 5,000 insects in its lifetime!
Afterwards, the children are invited to make a simple ladybug pompom craft, and to learn the life cycle of a ladybug.
On Thursday, May 23, the children will be able to view a "Ladybug Farm' with ladybug larvae, feed the ladybugs, and watch them each week at Storytime as they develop into a full grown adult red ladybug!
