Operation Christmas Child  (OCC) Update

Last year, All Saints' Church came alongside families to help provide Christmas gifts for over 300 children in need within our County for our Christmas "Un-Trim-a-Tree" giving project. With increasing numbers of children in need each year in our local area, as well as what God is doing within our church with local outreach, we are focusing our resources on rising Un-Trim-a-Tree needs. We are now asking parishioners, families, and ministries to prayerfully consider the contributions given in the past for Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts, to now instead give towards Un-Trim-a-Tree.  Gifts can be selected via online signup, or as financial contributions in early November.

For those that would like to carry the tradition of OCC shoeboxes, boxes can be picked up at various locations throughout Prince William County. Drop-off sites can be found at the Samaritan's Purse website.

Cookies for Kairos!

It’s time for KAIROS!! Suzy Speare and Carol Updike are team members of Kairos #44 scheduled for October 19 - 22 at the Central Virginia Correctional Unit for Women outside of Richmond.

Kairos is similar to Cursillo or Walk to Emmaus. It includes a three-and-a-half-day weekend program where a trained team of Christians go into the prison to carry God’s message of love and forgiveness to those incarcerated. Would you pray about partnering with us? You can participate in three different ways.

  1. Prayer – Our goal is to have our weekend covered 24/7 in prayer. You can use this link to sign up for a 30-minute prayer slot.

  2. Cookies – Each team member is responsible for 30 dozen homemade cookies. Would you bake cookies for us? There are very specific instructions that can be found here. Cookies can be brought to the church to the Kairos table in the atrium beginning October 1, October 8, and October 15. You can also leave cookies in the Admin Office on weekdays during normal business hours. Final day for delivering cookies is October 17.

  3. Financial Support – help offset the cost of supplies needed for the weekend. It costs about $100 per prisoner to attend such a weekend. Checks must be made payable to “Kairos of Va” with “CVCU” on the memo line.

Questions? Would you like to learn how you can be a team member for a future Kairos team?

Interested in Lay Eucharistic Ministry?

We need a few additional Lay Eucharistic Ministers (“LEMs”) to assist on Sunday mornings and at other special services throughout the year. If you would like to explore the LEM ministry, we would love to speak with you and answer any questions you may have about this ministry. Members of this team usually serve one Sunday a month. We can use  a few more volunteers for the 8:15 am service if you are an early riser.

This is a very meaningful way to assist our clergy each week and serve your church family. Please contact Dave Conner, 703-395-0468 or by email at dbconner19@yahoo.com for more information.

Getting to Know the Church: Pastoral Resident Reilly Pachecano

Another familiar face in our “Getting to Know the Church” series is Reilly Pachecano. Reilly has attended All Saints’ Church for as long as he can remember, but just this past summer he stepped into a unique role as our Pastoral Resident. He’s taken on more responsibilities and is learning and growing in the process. We caught up with him to find out more!

How long have you attended All Saints’ Church and what have you participated in?

I’ve been coming ever since I can remember ( as a young child). I’ve always been involved in the church. Whether it was Sunday School, Children’s Church, or VBS. In Middle School, I started acolyting. In high school, I was always a part of Youth Group, Bible study, Camp Booyah, and serving and Sundays. Serving on Sunday definitely grew once I was in High School.

When did you start your residency position?

I started this residency in June of 2023. And plan to keep going as long as All Saints’ Church will have me!

What are some of your responsibilities?

Each week I prepare the service booklets. These are the small books the clergy and other servers on Sunday use to follow the order of service and the liturgy. I also do the slides for Sunday morning. The slides are projected to allow the congregation to follow along with the liturgy of the service and music lyrics. I put the Scripture readings in the projection slides as well. Some of the other things I do come from assisting Fr. Scott and Fr. Jedd with pastoral needs. There is also a lot of busy office work! Throughout all of it, I am learning as much as I can! One thing I’ve learned is how to relate to people, come alongside people where they are, and learn to pray with people and for people.

What’s your favorite part of the residency?

The community. I love the comradery of getting to know everyone in the office.

What has been the most challenging part?

Early on it was trying to get a set schedule in place while balancing multiple responsibilities during the week and on Sunday mornings. In the beginning, I said yes to too many things and was not able to get it all done. It was a great lesson in time management and learning to say no.

Where do you see God working in your life?

I am sensing the potential for God calling me to ministry, but I am not sure yet. I am sensing the possibility of Him calling me to ordained ministry. However, I am still sitting back and letting God take the steering wheel.

What are you currently reading?

How to Read the Bible for All It’s Worth by Gordon Fee and Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis. How to Read the Bible for All It’s Worth is making me realize how much I didn’t know about reading my Bible! I’ve learned so much. Mere Christianity asks me very challenging questions that have me really thinking about things in the faith.

Why Anglicanism?

I like the liturgy, and how much the church puts an emphasis on prayer. Specifically at All Saints’ Church, I’ve always had the feeling of the church being the people and not the building.

How can we pray for you?

That God would order my steps the way He wants them to be ordered, and that he would give me patience to be content where I am and not rush ahead.

Fun Facts

  • I’m very caring and wholehearted. When it comes to sports, I’m very competitive!

  • I have seven years of volunteering at VBS under my belt!

  • My favorite sports team is the Washington Nationals.

Neabsco Elementary Updates- Thank You All Saints' Church!

Recently, All Saints’ Church has served our partner elementary schools in several ways! There was a school supply drive for Neabsco Elementary and Featherstone Elementary, lunches for KinderCamp at Neabsco Elementary, and a table at their Back-to-School fair! Read more about how we’ve supported these schools. A big thank you to the saints who served the children in our community through these outreach opportunities!

The school supply drive launched during Stellar VBS where the girls competed against the boys to see who could bring in the most supplies. The congregation generously jumped on board and brought in supplies as well. In the end, we provided all of the school supplies needed for 100+ Neabsco Elementary School students. We also provided 75 backpacks for students at Featherstone Elementary School.

We made lunches for 48 rising kindergarteners every day for 2 full weeks of Neabsco Elementary School's KinderCamp...that's 480 lunches altogether!

We also hosted a table at the Neabsco's Back-to-School Community Fair the Friday before school started. We shared with families information about our church and children's ministries while treating the kids to a temporary tattoo.

Getting to Know the Church: Deacon Andy

This is a season of transition, new faces, and exciting opportunities at All Saints’ Church! Starting this week, we’ll be highlighting some of the newer staff members and ministry leads. While Deacon Andy is not new to All Saints’ Church, his role here has changed now that he has entered into retirement from his position at the FBI. We sat down with him to get to know him more and find out more about how he’s serving All Saints’ Church in new ways in this season.

What originally brought you to All Saints’ Church?

From the time prior to my ordination, I had admired All Saints’ Church. It has been a vibrant, healthy church. In February 2013 Bishop John Guernsey reassigned me to serve at All Saints’ Church. A Deacon serves at the direction of their Bishop. Previously, I was at Celebration Anglican Church from 2009-2013.

What was your ordination process?

I have been in ministry since 1991, having been received by the Episcopal Church in 2006. I spoke to the rector of the church I was attending about my calling and for the next three years, read for orders. This is done under the supervision of the rector with the consent of the Bishop. Reading for orders is all the seminary reading without the piece of paper you get from a seminary degree! I also have an undergraduate degree in Biblical Studies. I was ordained a deacon on November 7, 2009 by Bishop Martin Mins.

When did you transition from the FBI to working on staff at ASC?

On May 31, 2023 I officially retired from the FBI after 20 year tenure. At the beginning of June, I came on board to serve in congregational care at All Saints’ Church. I hate to use the word work because the opportunities I’ve had to serve here have been an incredible blessing.

What are some of your new responsibilities and where can people see you serving at ASC?

I have transitioned from being a program manager in the FBI with oversight of the FBI’s night vision with a staff of scientists and engineers to serving alongside Deacon Julie and Father Jedd, and Father Scott+. I’ve had the opportunity to engage and serve members of the parish facing a number of physical challenges. I continue to serve on Sunday mornings at 8:15 a.m. However, much of what a Deacon does is done “behind the scenes” as opposed to what is seen visibly on Sunday morning.

As part of Congregational Care, I have been given oversight and coordination of Home Communion Visits. Ensuring those who desire the sacrament have an opportunity to receive it. Recently, I have come alongside the parish’s Dorcas Ministry which has been a true blessing for a Deacon who has ten thumbs and no idea how to crochet! The ladies of the Dorcas Ministry are providing items of comfort to those facing illnesses. We will also be providing products for newborns/those in neonatal care at Stafford Hospital. All knitters are welcome!

What has been your favorite part about this new season of life?

The opportunity for up close and personal care. The chance to serve the saints at All Saints Church!

Fun Facts:

  • Married 41 years to wife, Robin, father of two sons, grandfather of two boys.

  • I am an amateur radio operator under the call sign K2WAT and a retired master sergeant with the US Airforce

  • To my grandsons, I am known as Poppy big fan of Scotty dogs and Siamese cats.

Stay tuned to see who we highlight in next week’s feature!

Nursery Needs on the Rise!

Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” With the Fall Kickoff and a growing church, the nursery has rising needs for support. Nursery Attendants are only asked to serve once a month, or as you are able. Can you help fill one of these needs?

  • Sunday mornings, 9:45 am (Sunday School Hour)

  • Sunday eves, 4-6 pm (Foundations Bible Study)

  • Monday MOPS, 9:45-11:45 am (Mothers of Preschoolers)

  • Wednesday Evenings, 6-7:30 pm (Membership/Confirmation Class)

Volunteer nursery attendants enjoy our comfortable nurseries!  A child protection class is required (known as 'Protecting God's Children') and can be set up at your convenience, or can be renewed in one hour online.  Serving in this way ministers to our next generation of Christian families.  Contact Tara at tpedersen@allsaintswoodbridge.org, or call Tara at the church office.

Meet & Greet for Recent Attendees

Have you started attending All Saints’ Church within the past several months If so, we would like to properly welcome you with a brief meet and greet on Sunday, September 17- immediately following the second service. Light refreshments will be provided, and childcare is available for children in 1st Grade and under. Please contact Tara if your young child is attending as lunch is provided in the nursery.
