New Fall 2024 Sunday School Offerings for Adults and Youth Begin September 8

For Adults:

Come along with Josh Moore as he leads us through Henri Nouwen’s book The Genesee Diary beginning Sunday, September 8 in the Bishop’s Conference Room.

On finding that, in the clutter of his life, his intimacy with God was lacking, Nouwen spent several months living as a temporary monk at The Abbey of the Genesee in upstate New York. He hoped that there, free from the other distractions of his life, he could spend his time in undistracted work, worship, and meditative prayer.

Copies of The Genesee Diary will be available on the first day of class for $10. Used copies costing around $5 can also be purchased from Amazon or ThriftBooks.

Bible 101 is a revised course offered this fall for eight weeks beginning September 8 between services in the Administrative Conference Room. Led by Walt DeHoust, this class will introduce participants to the entire Bible using the central framework of the “Kingdom of God.”

The Kingdom of God is defined as God’s people, in God’s place, enjoying God’s rule and blessing. The course will be a composite overview with occasional “stop-offs” for a closer look at God’s kingdom. The intent is to give participants a greater understanding of the central message of the Bible and the relationship between the Old and New Testaments, and a stronger confidence in personal Bible study.

For Youth:

Middle School Our brand new Sunday School class for all middle school students starts September 8 in the Multi-Purpose Room. Each week, we’ll explore aspects of our Christian faith through the Sunday readings, our liturgy, and other Anglican traditions. Join us for activities, snacks, and lively discussions as we grow in faith together!

High School Students in 9th - 12th grade are invited to the downstairs Multi-Purpose Room for a deep-dive into the four gospels of the New Testament.

3 King Dolls Find Newborn King

Our 3 king dolls have finished their journey and found the newborn King! Praise be to God! What a journey they had through the entire season of Advent, around Dale City neighborhoods, local parks, car rides around town, the breakfast table, church member homes, and even found their way around All Saints' Church! The children too found our Newborn King with the help of the visiting 3 Kings in Children's Church, hearing all about their journey in word and song on Epiphany Sunday. Thank you again to our treasured Margaret Nicholas donating the King dolls for our children.

Here is a glimpse of our Kings on their journey:

We Believe: An Exploration and Celebration of the Creeds of the Church

The creeds are something we say as part of our worship each week and an integral part of most of our liturgies. Perhaps you wondered where they came from, why they are worded as they are and how they shape our faith. Come join us, over the next 6 weeks, as we look at the history, biblical basis and spiritual significance of the 3 creeds in our Book of Common Prayer – the Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed and the perhaps less familiar, Athanasian Creed. This study will meet at the Education Hour (9:45-10:40 am.), in the Sanctuary, beginning Sunday, January 9.

A Christmas Thank You!

Thank you to everyone that served during Advent in the Living Nativity and in the Family Christmas Eve service prep. It truly was a season of preparation, but with much rejoicing! Over a month's time of practicing songs, rehearsing, costuming, staging, constructing, and more! It all came to be a celebration of a newborn King and a Savior to the world right here in Dale City. Thank you to everyone that contributed in so many ways!

Three Kings Search for the Newborn King!

The children of All Saints’ Church are invited to a “Three King's Search for the Newborn King!”

In the season of Advent, children will be taking turns in Sunday School receiving one of the three Kings dolls, carefully prepared by our beloved Margaret Nichols. The dolls will go home with 3 children each week, and they can either take pictures of their King doll on a special journey to find baby Jesus (perhaps an outing to grandma's house, sitting under their own Christmas tree or while reading an Advent family devotion, or even in the kitchen while cooking a family meal!) Or they can journal/write, or draw a picture of their King somewhere on a special visit.

Our King dolls will be traveling through all the weeks of Advent until Epiphany, when the children will be invited to share about their King's journey, hear the story of The Visit of the Wise Men, be visited by the singing and costumed Three Kings themselves on January 9th.

All families attending Sunday School will be invited first to take a King doll home for the week, returning it with their photos, writings, or drawing! Ages 3 and up are invited!
